What are School Presidents?

School Presidents lead student representation in each academic school and are in place to represent all students regardless of course or level.

Presidents play an essential role in capturing student voice and providing student feedback in the right places by:

  • Working directly with senior School management and in particular the Dean, Associate Dean Group and School Manager
  • Attending Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the School Presidents Forum (SPF) as full voting members
  • Working with all their student representatives (VPs and CRs) to capture and respond to student feedback and supports partnership working with staff
  • Working to resolve and escalate serious issues to senior School or University management when required

What are School Vice-Presidents?

Vice Presidents represent the student voice in each of the Schools disciplines’ and provide an important link between the Class Representative and the School President, by being aware of, and capturing what is happening in their discipline’s learning environments.

Vice Presidents play an essential role in ensuring that:

  • Students and staff within their disciplines meet to discuss student feedback
  • School President are supported by chairing their disciplines Student-Staff Liaison Committees (SSLC) and working with School staff to organise and run the meetings
  • They act as an interim in situations where there is no available School President
  • Decisions and information are effectively communicated to the Class Representative they work with

This role can be demanding, but it is undoubtedly a rewarding one. A successful post-holder will execute their role whilst balancing other commitments, particularly their studies.
